Long-term use of chicken litter manure in farmlands has caused a sharp increase in the concentration of soil and water phosphorus (P). Movement of excess soil P through runoff and leaching results in eutrophication of waterways and the deterioration in water quality. Duo festulolium is a hybrid between perennial ryegrass and meadow fescue. Plants grown in the greenhouse will be harvested after varying periods of time, and corresponding accumulation in biomass and shoot P will be determined. Phosphorus removal capacity of Duo grass can be calculated by the dry matter productivity and shoot P accumulation rate.
