The Virginia Tech Agronomy Club constantly searches for new avenues
to enhance our knowledge of the agronomy industry. In an attempt to connect with the industry, the
Virginia Tech Agronomy Club traveled for the first time to the Ag Expo held at
Renwood Farms in Charles City County, Virginia on August 8, 2007. The Ag Expo is an event held in Virginia every year for
people involved in the field of agronomy.
This year's Ag Expo's theme was “Celebrating 400 Years of American
Agriculture” making this an exceptional year for the club to attend. At this event, there are exhibits, field
plots highlighting corn and soybean varieties, plant population/density
research, and antique corn varieties, and new equipment on display. From this,
the members are able to obtain new information and apply knowledge gained from
classes to real opportunities and situations.
For this event, the club created a display to demonstrate what the club
does on a yearly bases and promote Virginia Tech students to employers. In return for waving the fee for a display,
the club ran gators with drinks to help cool patrons down and assisted with basic
clean up after the event. This
opportunity brought the Agronomy Club together to accomplish the goal of making
the Ag Expo a success. With hard work,
the Ag Expo will become a yearly event to expose the Virginia Tech Agronomy
Club to the field of agronomy in Virginia
and promote the club itself.
