I took my first soil science class 40 years ago and have been teaching soils at the college level for 32 years. Perspectives on teaching soils; use of technology, including chalk board, power point, an Internet course, and web assisted courses will be provided. The following challenges will be discussed: 1. teaching at a state university, not a land grant university 2. textbook changes 3. use of computers and technology in teaching 4. development of a course for the Internet 5. teaching a web assisted course 6. changing needs of students 7. successes and failures
