Estimating Water Use and Soil Water Requirements of Wildlands Shrubs.

Plant water use is moderated by plant species and also by matric potential of moisture in the soil. This makes modelling of plant water use in wildlands field situations difficult. A combination of functions is used to estimate plant water use by wildlands shrub species in the summer-dry mediterranean environment of California. By understanding plant water use and soil water capacity, soils can be treated to provide adequate moisture for plant growth through the summer-dry season without supplemental irrigation.
