Buffalograss Response to Swine Efluent and Urea N: A 7 Year Study.

J. Clemn Turner and Jeff Hattey. Oklahoma State University, 810 W 7th Ave, Stillwater, OK 74074-4506

In a 7 year study it was found that urea nitrogen decreased buffalograss forage production at higher N loading rates, and yields were lower when compared to swine effluent as an N source.  Increases to buffalograss yields from SE were linear.  The differences among N sources on forage yields supports other findings where growth and persistence of native grass species is related to N and P additions, and not to N additions alone.  Approximately a 5 Mg ha-1 difference was observed when SE was used as an N source compared to urea N.
