WSCS, CSSA, WWW Joint Summer Conference
Bozeman, MT, June 19-22, 2005

The Western Society of Crop Science (WSCS), the Crop Science Society of America (CSSA), and the Western Wheat Workers (WWW) will co-host a summer conference from June 19-22, 2005 on the campus of Montana State University in Bozeman, Montana. In addition to regular presentations, the conference will have one symposium and two workshops. Awards will be offered to the best student presentations.

The symposium "Alternative Crops and Cropping Systems" will focus on advancement in alternative crop cultivation and utilization, rotational effects of alternative crops, and cropping systems research. In conjunction, a local field tour will visit crop diversification studies that compare productivity in no-till and organic cropping systems, and contrast greenhouse gas balance associated with tillage, cropping intensity, N source and amount (Contact: Dr. Perry Miller, pmilleratmontana.edu).

Abstract Submission

To submit an abstract for the WSCS meeting, please select the appropriate topic:

    Two workshops are:

    1. SAS and other statistical programs for analyzing mixed models – A hands-on workshop on SAS PROC MIXED and other statistical packages for analyzing various agricultural experiments (Instructor: Dr. Don Bullock, dbullock@uiuc.edu).
    2. Web-based Teaching – Application of WEB-CT and other web-based methods. A panel discussion led by the host institution will focus on on-campus and distance delivery to undergraduate and graduate students, public educators, crop advisors, extension agents and other clientele (Instructor: Dr. James Bauder, jbauder@montana.edu).

Bozeman is a small but highly diverse city in the Rocky Mountain West, making it an ideal place to hold a conference. Located in the beautiful Gallatin Valley, Bozeman is a gateway city for Yellowstone National Park (90 miles away), and boasts many recreational opportunities for families. Bozeman has wonderful shopping centers, parks, world-class museums, and arts and cultural opportunities. There are also hot springs and spas, golf courses, and whitewater rafting for post conference activities.

This summer conference will provide an excellent mix of scientific presentations, tours for both scientists and companions, and social activities.

For more information about the conference, symposium, and workshops contact Dr. Chengci Chen: cchen@montana.edu or Dr. Dennis Cash:dcash@montana.edu,406-423-5421.
