Introduction.

John Havlin, North Carolina State University, Department of Soil Science, PO Box 7619, Raleigh, NC 27695-7619

Within written history, the United States has never experienced the devastating effects of a natural disaster like we have seen with Hurricane Katrina, followed immediately by Rita. The force of nature disregards all man-made alterations to the environment and finds its own equilibrium. As a result, the human and environmental toll was significant. The effects will be felt for years to come. As scientific societies, our knowledge and understanding of Agronomy, Crops, Soils and Environmental Sciences will be important contributors to the rebuilding efforts.

Join us for a special session, a first for the Societies, with a panel of speakers, as we explore some of the issues facing the affected areas.
