Production of forage soybean in the United States is increasing. However, production may be limited by corn earworm, an insect pest of soybean in the Delmarva Peninsula region of the US. An in vitro study of soybean leaves collected from a field test was conducted to evaluate forage soybean genotypes for antibiosis type resistance to corn earworm. The feeding tests were conducted on excised leaves obtained from a randomized complete block design field experiment. Results showed significant variation among forage soybean genotypes in their susceptibility to corn earworm. Tara, 7P116 and 8 GH 85-2 were the most susceptible genotypes while Moon Cake showed some antibiosis resistance. Since the present study is the first to document antibiosis type of resistance in forage soybeans further investigation is needed to evaluate their antibiosis resistance against other key insect pests of soybean.
