Ssr Map of a Soybean F2 Population.

Jeffery D. Ray, Jeffery L. Shultz, and James R. Smith. USDA-ARS, 141 Experiment Station Road, Stoneville, MS 38756

A soybean SSR map was developed from an F2 population created from a cross of DT97-4290 and 97-84-1. Over 150 polymorphic SSR markers were placed on the map in a preliminary evaluation using a subset of the F2 population (90 F2 plants). Comparisons are shown between this map and previously published soybean maps where differences were evident. Mapping distances in problematic areas were confirmed by evaluating the markers on the full F2 population (over 300 F2 plants). Potential skewness in the mapping population was evaluated using a simply inherited, easily scored trait (flower color). The utility of the map was demonstrated by using it to determine SSR markers linked to stem termination loci.
