The University of Wisconsin-River Falls Brings Kids to the Farm.

Derek J. Waldera, University of Wisconsin-River Falls, 410 South Third Street, River Falls, WI 54022

Every spring, in conjunction with other agricultural groups at the University of Wisconsin-River Falls (UWRF), the UWRF Crops and Soils Club hosts Farm Day. Approximately 800 elementary-aged school children are invited to attend Farm Day as a way to integrate agricultural awareness into the classroom. Teachers are allowed to pre-register for the stations they would like to visit, including sheep shearing, egg candling, crops, dairy products, forestry, a petting zoo, dairy cow nutrition, and agricultural jeopardy. The small group format allows for individual attention and hands-on experience. The materials they are given to take home ensures that Farm Day is an unforgettable and educational event for each student.
