The IUSS selected the World Reference Base for Soil Resources (WRB) to be the global correlation scheme for soil classification and international communication in 1998. After seven years of experiences the WRB Working Group is reviewing the rationale and structure of the correlation system. After short summary of WRB history, recent activities (meetings, summer schools, correlation tours, publications, applications harmonization efforts with ST), the paper will discuss the major conclusions of experiences, the methods of involving scientists from different continent in the process and the improvements that have been implemented toward a revised “WRB 2006” to be presented at the World Congress of Soil Science at Philadelphia in 2006.
