An experiment was initiated at Clemson University in May, 2004 with the objective to evaluate ‘TifEagle' bermudagrass response to three plant growth regulators (PGRs) alone and in various tank-mixtures. PGR treatments were applied on the 2nd and 17th of every month with initial applications on 17 May 2004. The experiment included three PGR treatments, three PGR tank mixes, and an untreated control in a randomized complete block design. Treatments consisted of trinexapac-ethyl (Primo 1EC) at 0.0175 kg ai/ha, flurprimidol (Cutless 50WP) at 0.07 kg ai/ha, and ethephon (Proxy 2L) at 1.91 kg ai/ha. The PGR tank mixes consisted of trinexapac-ethyl (0.00875 kg ai/ha) + flurprimidol (0.035 kg ai/ha), trinexapac-ethyl (0.00875 kg ai/ha) + ethephon (0.955 kg ai/ha), and flurprimidol (0.035 kg ai/ha) + ethephon (0.955 kg ai/ha). Clipping yield production (CY) was measured monthly in June, July, and August and was based on the weight of clippings harvested. Turfgrass quality (TQ) and turfgrass density (TD) were measured and recorded weekly using a scale from 1 to 9. Percent lateral regrowth (RG) was measured from 5.08 cm plugs removed from each plot. TQ was reduced below the unacceptable range by Cutless and Cutless tank-mixtures. Proxy and Proxy tank-mixtures slightly reduced TQ. TD was improved by Primo MAXX alone and reduced by all other treatments and treatment combinations. CY was reduced 30% from Primo MAXX alone. Cutless alone and Cutless + Primo reduced CY 50%. Proxy + Cutless reduced CY by 41% in August. All treatments and treatment combinations caused a slight reduction in lateral regrowth. Root biomass and root length density were measured and will be discussed.
