Sugarcane Storage for Ohio.

Jeff Rutan and Tom Stilwell. Wilmington College, 251 Ludovic St., Wilmington, OH 45177

Two varieties of sugarcane (Saccharum officinarum) were tested for longevity in refrigerated storage.  Under Ohio conditions, it is sometimes necessary to store sugarcane seed stalks for extended periods of time.  Two varieties, LCP85-384 and CP89-2143, were provided by the ARS/USDA Sugarcane Field Station in Canal Point , Florida .  Stalks were stored for periods up to 6 weeks and then planted in trays under two different temperature regimes.  Times to sprout were recorded for each stalk.  Differences were noted for the two varieties and for two different soil temperature regimes.
