Connecting Regional Plans with Long-Term Military Training/Testing Opportunities.

James Westervelt and Bruce MacAllister. Engineer Research and Development Center, PO Box 9005, Champaign, IL 61826-9005

Communities that plan for accommodating future military training and testing will be better prepared through future base realignment and closure exercises.  We have developed a suite of software that allows a community to test proposed regional plans with respect to future military training and testing opportunities.  Plans that can be tested include location of highway development/expansion, location of ramps to limited access highways, zoning, location of utilities, property purchases, and purchase of property development rights.  Final output maps indicate future (20-40 yr) acceptable locations for dust, smoke, and noise generating training exercises.  Preliminary first-step results for Fort Riley will be presented.
