Soils of Indiana are variable based on the soil forming factors of the geographic areas. This paper will present the description and classification in ST (Soil Taxonomy) and WRB (World Reference Base for Soil Resources) of some of the most common soils of Indiana. The commonalities and differences in the two systems will be discussed. Both soil classification systems are based on a diagnostic approach, but ST is much more hierarchical.  In 1998 the International Union of Soil Science endorsed the WRB as the recommended soil correlation system for all soil scientists.
