Heavy metals in soils pose a significant health risk. Such metals as Zn and Cu are essential micronutrients for plants and animals, while others like Cd, and Pb have no obvious biological function. A study is being undertaken on soils under various crop management practices, using a sequential fractionation scheme to investigate the distribution and chemical fractions of Cu, Pb, Ni, Zn, Fe, and Mn. The complete results will be presented.
