Glycerin Utilization-Producing Industrial Glycols from Bio-diesel Glycerin.

Terry Brix, CEO of International Polyol Chemicals, PO Box 190, Blue River, OR 97413-0190

International Polyol Chemicals Inc (IPCI) is a Washington State Corporation founded in 1985. IPCI and its international partners have developed proven technology for the conversion of sugars to industrial glycols (ethylene glycol, propylene glycol). All industrial glycols are currently produced from nonrenewable oil or natural gas. The overall world market 20 million MT/year valued at in excess of $20 billion. IPCI has demonstrated that these industrial glycols can now be produced from glycerin-a problematic situation limiting biodiesel economics. The presentation will outline the overall process, economics and glycol markets related to converting biodiesel glycerin into glycols.
