Attibutes of Canola Meal in Various Applications.

Dave Hickling, Canola Council of Canada, 400 - 167 Lombard Ave, Winnipeg, MB R3B 0T6, Canada

Canola meal is the second most widely used protein ingredient in animal feeds in the world after soybean meal.  It is used in all types of animal feeds, however its premium use is in feeding dairy cattle.  Canola meal's value in high energy, monogastric diets is limited by its high fiber (low energy) content.  The value of canola meal in different animal diets as well as ways to increase its value for certain animals will be discussed.  Also, edible uses (human) and non-food/feed uses, such as fertilizer and thermal combustion, will be discussed.
