The Effect of Several Slow Release Nitrogen Compounds on Corn Yield and Nitrogen Use.

Charles A. Shapiro, University of Nebraska-Lincoln, Concord, NE 68728-2828 and Richard Ferguson, University of Nebraska - Lincoln, Dept. of Agronomy & Horticulture, 377 Plant Science, Lincoln, NE 68583-0724.

Several slow release nitrogen products using different mechanisms were tested under irrigated conditions on sandy loams and silt loams in south central and north central Nebraska. Corn yield and nitrogen uptake were collected as well as several plant N indicators through the season. Results indicate that improved nitrogen use efficiency depends on release rates that are matched to specific local environmental conditions. These conditions are difficult to predict.
