Real-World Exercises for a World Food Class.

Thomas Stilwell, Wilmington College, 1376 Greene Rd., Martinsville, OH 45146

Introducing students to food production systems in other countries is difficult in a classroom setting. The World Food course taught at Wilmington College uses two modules to directly involve students with international food production without leaving campus. The first is a role-playing exercise involving cross-cultural negotiation. The second is a mock trade fair where students negotiate with merchants from other countries to purchase agricultural products. Class evaluations and student comments indicate that these are the most vivid classroom experiences recalled by the students involved.
