Soil Mineralogy Trends in California Landscapes.

R.C. Graham and A.T. O'Geen. University of California, Soil & Water Sciences Program, Dep. of Environmental Sciences, Riverside, CA 92521-0424

California's diverse geology and weathering environments produce a wide variety of soil minerals. At least 17 soil mineralogy classes are mapped in the state. Using several example soilscapes, we examine how lithology, climate, topography, and duration of pedogenesis interact to produce mineral components in soils of the state.
