A Web-based Repository for Unique Range Designs.

Military range construction is time-consuming and costly and the financial burden of design and construction for new training facilities is shouldered by the installation.  A substantial portion of the cost of new range structures and facilities design on training areas is redundant. To facilitate reduced costs and eliminate redundancy in the design of a military range it would be advantageous to have a web-based repository where installations would benefit from other users lessons learned, potentially reduce construction conflicts and costs, maintenance, labor and overall improve their range designs. This presentation details the development of a web-based range repository for commonly used structures on ranges for public works, natural resources, and range personnel who are responsible for designing and managing ranges. The goal of this repository was to provide up-to-date relevant designs for towers, impact berms, targetry systems, defilades, etc. to the Integrated Training Area Management (ITAM), Range and Training Land Program (RTLP), and Sustainable Range Program (SRP) community.  The development of this system was needed to maximize the success, safety, efficiency, cost benefits, and aesthetics of ranges on military installations.
