Selenium Concentration in Selected Soils and Wheat Varieties Grown in South Dakota.

The objectives of this study were to investigate the difference in selenium (Se) concentration between wheat varieties, and to investigate the relationship between soil Se and total wheat grain Se grown in South Dakota. Ten varieties of spring wheat and eight varieties of winter wheat were tested in this study. Total Se in soil and wheat grain was significantly different with locations. However, there was no significant difference in total grain Se concentration among wheat varieties tested. Selenium concentration in wheat grain was probably influenced by soil environmental factors. In this study, the relationship between soil Se functional form and total wheat grain Se will be also discussed.
