Student Assessment of Their Knowledge of Topics in the World Food and Society Course.

James N. McCrimmon, Department of Agriculture, Southeast Missouri State University, 1 University Plaza, Cape Girardeau, MO 63701

Several sections of the World Food and Society course are taught each semester in the Department of Agriculture. This course satisfies the economic systems requirement for University Studies. The objective of this study was to assess the pre- and post-course student knowledge of various topics taught in the course. On the first day of class, each student filled out a student profile which included background information and questions asking them to rate their knowledge of certain topics. At the end of the course, the same set of questions were asked of each student. The difference between the pre- and post-course ratings was tested with a t-test for significance.
