The Potential for Highly Productive Plant Biofuels.

Increasingly it is recognized that plant biofuels will replace a portion of our fossil fuel derived energy. The details are less clear. How much energy can biofuels provide? What are the best biofuels? What is their environmental impact? Can a grower make money growing biofuels? This presentation will review the US biofuel scene today with a focus on sustainable, yet highly productive, perennial biofuel systems. Regional crop combinations, the role of annuals in a perennial system, and the improvement of today’s primitive biomass crops will be discussed.
