Extensive land use planning information is available in soil surveys for most of the United States but unfortunately this information is not used for most planning decisions. Great advances in mapping and internet technologies have made this information much easier to obtain for many users with two outstanding software products. However, there are some substantial limitations with these applications. For example, the Web Soil Survey makes this information available only for small of areas of interest and it can not be integrated with user data. The Soil Data Viewer is difficult for most to use who have not been trained in GIS analysis. We propose making land use data available in Google Earth and Google Map. This paper describes various procedures we have used to accomplish this for some locations in Kentucky. In addition, we will demonstrate how this information can be applied to land-use decisions.
