The University of California Citrus Experiment Station celebrated its 100th Anniversary, February 14, 2007. During the years, the Station became known globally as an important agricultural research institution where scientists identified important crop diseases and insects developing resistant crops and pest management technologies, as well as citrus frost protection techniques and equipment. In time, the scope of research expanded to as many as 100 different crops and the name was changed to the Citrus Research Center and Agricultural Experiment Station. The UC Riverside Campus was established on a corner of the land in 1954. The Anniversary celebration included an Open House on each end of the year long activities, which included a Symposium and a lecture series addressing the issues facing agriculture. The highlight features of each Open House were bus tours of the Station where current research was explained and demonstrations were set up showing how the cultural activities were performed. The focus on research included booths set up by AES Departments to show the public what they do.
