The Virtual Museum of Minerals and Molecules is a web-based resource presenting interactive, 3D, research-grade molecular models of more than 150 minerals and molecules of interest to chemical, earth, plant, and environmental sciences. The proprietary Chime plugin, used since 1998 and now limited to the Internet Explorer browser on Windows platform, has been replaced with Jmol, an open source molecular visualization Java applet, which opens accessibility to a wide array of browsers and operating systems and permitting the development of new visualization features and improvements.
